How to Optimize Your Content With SEO Writing

Content converts but only if it has the traffic.

What good is dumping hours of your day into a piece of evergreen content if people aren’t going to see it? None, because those articles half the length are going to rank higher in search engines because they put in place SEO writing.

SEO writing isn’t much different than the norm:

  • SEO writing: Write what’s on your mind but based on topic research and the addition of keywords and phrases people are using to find such content

This form of writing doesn’t throw out the value in place of keywords. There are some that go a little overboard with their SEO writing but the real trick is to make it feel natural and stick to the point (while using SEO practices).

Want to learn how to do this SEO writing in five quick steps?

SEO Writing is as Easy as 1, 2, 3 (4 and 5)

Everyone has the ability to write — all it takes is practice and a bit of reading to learn the various styles so you can better convey your thoughts.

But: Write for your audience.

Want to break up content into tiny chunks? Great!

Want to take some time to explain a topic while going into great detail using longer form, bolding, italicization, and other call-outs which will catch the attention of the user? That’s also fine.

See where this is going?

It all depends on your personal preference with a mix of what the community has come to expect. Your content development style creates a unique flavor to your brand so own and champion it!

Anyway, onto those five steps:

  1. Take time to use analytical and keyword research tools to find the keywords and phrases people are using as queries which lead them to your website. Use the short keywords to develop a “seed” list of long-tail keywords.
  2. Start your focus on answering questions and then further the content expansion into other areas based on your research, ideas, and by leveraging (and doing one better) over the competition.
  3. Make sure to repeat the keyword a couple of times throughout the content, headers, links, and through optimizing extra media (like images) through descriptions that are very specific.
  4. Pass the content through a grammar app such as Grammarly to check for spelling errors. Also take this time to touch up the formatting so that it’s easy to read. Consider your content strategy and bringing the community on to help with content publication through guest posting and videography.
  5. Publish the post but be sure to make a point to come back and make necessary edits with extra information and revisions based on the changes within your industry and information.

Which brings us to the final point…

SEO Writing is a Learning Process

Search engine optimization is an on-going experience.

Tactics and strategies change with each passing year. Content will stay the same – as long as you’re dishing out great stuff – but as far as the nitty-gritty: adapt.

Read often. Create content often. Understand SEO.

Do so and you’ll hit those high rankings, no doubt, and give your competition a run for their money.
